Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is nestled in the artsy neighborhood of Silver Lake. My students are inquisitive, creative, and full of questions! They have been instilled a love of learning and welcome challenges that push them to thinking outside the box to find a solution. They enter the classroom ready for whatever challenge awaits them to learn and grow as a scholar and as an individual.
Each day I invite my students to learn by incorporating a variety of learning strategies and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met.
They are truly an incredible group, and they teach me lessons on a daily basis. I am grateful to have a group of learners who are excited to be the best scholars and who are ready to learn something new each day!
My Project
Reading book clubs are a huge part of our reading routine. Unfortunately, with being 100% virtual, I have had to adjust how book clubs are managed. At the moment, we have had to depend primarily on a digital platform to read books, but it's hard for my students to be as engaged as when they have an actual physical book in their hands.
I would love the opportunity to put a physical book back in the hands of each of my students.
The science fiction and fantasy books in this project will allow me to send books home to my students so that they can have the book physically in their hands while they have discussions about their books in their clubs, instead of having to toggle between their online book platform and their virtual meeting platform. It will also afford them a reprieve from reading books online.
