This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students walk into our classroom each morning with smiles on their faces and eager to learn. They are inquisitive, young children with the world just within their reach. They each come from unique backgrounds, entering our classroom daily with their own strengths, interests, hopes, dreams and worries about life. But together, we strive to make each day meaningful, fun and learning-filled​!

My goal for each and every one of my students is to instill a love of learning within them.

With that love, I believe that my students can achieve anything that they put their minds to, whether it be in fourth grade, eighth grade or throughout the remainder of their lives. They can and they will achieve great things!

My Project

Fractions. You can almost hear the audible groan coming from a classroom of fourth graders when they first hear me mention the word. The claim they "hate" them and "don't understand them" and that they are "impossible" to learn. That's when I just smile! I set out to make my students love learning, love math and love fractions.

I love to incorporate games, fun and learning into my everyday math classroom and learning about fractions is no different!

With these fraction manipulatives, the kids will have endless exposure opportunities to fractions making them not only a fun and enjoyable part of our fourth grade year; but better yet, something they grow to understand and appreciate.

These math pieces that I am looking for in my classroom will allow students to work alone on fractions. They will be using the independent wrap ups, work with groups by using the partner games and activities and work with a whole class with the magnetic fraction tiles. The entire class is able to more easily see what is going on.
