This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever written in a journal and had the opportunity to look back at your life and reflect on your childhood? I want to give my students opportunities to record their thoughts, and discoveries in their own special journal. I want them to think and write like scientist and mathematicians.

I teach at a very diverse multicultural school.

We are a Title I school with over 29 languages represented on our campus. In my first grade class all of my students are bilingual, with four different languages represented. My first graders love reading, math, science and technology. They get excited when we are able to experience new learning through different types of media. When plain paper gets a bit tedious why not use fun and functional white boards? Our school is in a low income neighborhood but full of eager, creative learners. In our district our goal is to have all children excelling and ready for college. We follow the Common Core Standards to ensure that all students are getting the same quality education.

My Project

My students need a class set of Math and Science Journals, pens, Number LInes, Neon Post-It-Notes, and Finger Fitter Pencils to become super mathematicians and scientists. Students use their journals to record, observe and share their findings with others. Students will be able to record their findings and discoveries for math and science in their journals. They will have a record of what they learned for the year in both subjects and be able to take it home to share with their families. Unfortunately we do not always have the supplies to write and use, due to budget cuts. Supplying the kids with all possible media types with increase engagement and enthusiasm. They will be able to use the post it notes to write comments in their friends journals with out ruining the integrity of someone else's works. The post it notes are also a way for me to ask questions for the students to reflect on while leaving their thought sacred. (No grading allowed.) We will use the number lines to count accurately and to help us discover new ways to solve problems.

This project is so important because it gives impoverished children a since of ownership and pride.

They will have a record of their growth and discoveries. As well as the proper tools to accomplish goals.
