Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our first grade classroom we celebrate each student's success! My first grade students come to school ready and excited to start the day. They have eager faces to learn when I meet them on the blacktop in the morning. We hurry excitedly to the classroom and I welcome the class through the door.

My classroom is composed of diverse ethnic, social, linguistic, and economic backgrounds.

Our class is diverse, and the walls dedicated in our classroom to our self-portraits represents the California population. One cannot tell from their happy self-portraits that a majority of my class qualifies for a free or reduced lunch.

My Project

My classroom will incorporate three mini i-pads in our instructional day and provide my students with the opportunity to use technology. The i-pad will be used during our differentiated workshop time. In workshop, I am able to focus on the students’ progress with letter and sound recognition and phonemic awareness. The groups differ from students learning letters to reading the sounds in lists, to groups reading target phonic book sounds. The students will all be able to access Raz Kids on the i-pads, where I can assign students their reading levels and begin listening to stories and working on different comprehension skills. The i-pads will also be utilized to emphasize and create research projects for mathematics and science lessons.

The first grade students in my class will greatly benefit from Donors Choose project submission as the i-pads will give students the opportunity to work one on one with kid friendly technology.

Many of my students do not have access to computers at home, and the i-pads will give my students the opportunity to explore. The i-pads will be utilized daily in my classroom.
