Help us use technology in the classroom to expand our horizons, extend our knowledge, and learn how to use technology successfully!

My first grade students live in a high-poverty, inner city neighborhood.

Most of the children do not have access to a computer and very few classrooms have the advantages of a SMARTboard or an LCD projector. In order for my students to reach their full potential, the need to be able to learn about technology.

My Project

An LCD projector will allow my students to learn in many different ways. Many of my children are visual learners; with an LCD projector they will be able to learn vocabulary words through pictures and short video clips. They will extend their content knowledge through educational websites and will be able to access online resources. It will expose them to technology and allow them to extend their background knowledge. For example, we have been learning about animal habitats. It is difficult to vividly describe the various places animals live, especially to young children who have never left the city they grew up in. Imagine watching a short video clip that immerses you into the life of the rain forest. The students would hear the rib-bit of a tree frog and the squawk of a toucan, as they watched a snake slither by. They would quickly understand how a rain forest is different then the city.

An LCD projector would be a great addition to my classroom.

My students would love the visual stimuli, and would benefit from the use of technology and unlimited educational resources. Please help us make this dream a reality!
