My students are a unique bunch! Our classroom is full of diverse students with various backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, economic statuses as well as academic needs. Many of my students do not have the support at home that is needed for a successful education. While we try to provide everything we possibly can, the job is not easy. We strive for excellence, we praise each other and we practice honesty. Our classroom is a judge-free zone.
All children have special needs when it comes to their education.
My students are placed in an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom. This means that 40% of the students fall under the special education umbrella and 60% are general education students. In an ICT classroom there are 2 teachers; one special education teacher and one general education teacher. My co-teacher and I are both very passionate about serving the community we work in and our students know that when they walk through the door, they will be challenged, they will be supported and most of all, they will be loved.
My Project
In our classroom, there are many students with and without special needs who can't sit still or have a hard time focusing. In an effort to calm their fidgety nerves, the items I have requested are bouncy bands and fidget toys.
Sensory, focusing and attention issues are prevalent among many classrooms.
The bouncy bands get attached to the legs of the student chairs and provide a quiet way for them to release extra energy and stay focused. The fidget toys help students with sensory issues stay focused without distracting others.
Having these items available to our students would help us get through lessons with less disruptions and distractions. They will also help us create a welcoming, fun environment for our amazing class.
