My students are Kindergarten students in a primary (Pre-K through Second Grade) school in a rural area in West Virginia. Our school is very small with just two classes of each grade. This makes it feel more like a family atmosphere. Although Pre-K is offered in our school it is not mandatory, so for many of our students this is their first school experience. My students are often very excited and eager to learn. I love the excitement of Kindergarten students!
My Project
These materials will be used for various family involvement nights at our school. We hope to help parents encourage their children to ask questions about the world around them and to work together with the teachers to explore these concepts. This project focuses on STEM activities that ask students to plan, design, and create, a solution to a particular need. This will be done through the use of materials that students can use after school with parents or in the classroom. Some of these include kits that students create solutions to help characters in Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Gingerbread Man, a roller coaster creating set, and a light table to explore colors, shapes, and x-rays. These materials will also be used by various classrooms throughout the school year.
