My Students

Please help the families of my future class bridge the gap between home and school.

Kindergarten is usually a child's first formal school experience.

The children will need to start to learn to be responsible and independent. The parents may have lots of questions about school events and policies as well as what they can do to further their child's learning at home.

My Project

I would like to provide a "Family Involvement Starts Here" folder for each student in my incoming class. The F.I.S.H. folders will be carried between home and school each day. The folder will be clearly labeled and use page protectors to display items such as: a reference sheet (so parents will know the best ways and times to contact me), a weekly newsletter (so parents will be aware of what was covered in class and how they can extend the learning at home as well as information about upcoming events), and letter & number formation sheets (so the students will be able to practice their handwriting at home using dry erase markers). The folder will also contain a pocketed divider to house reading logs and poems for an at-home early reading program. A zippered pouch will provide a space for money and letters that are sent to school. The labeled pockets will inform parents which items should remain home and which items are to be returned to school.

With your help, each student in my class will be provided with a folder to display, store, and organize essential school information and activities.

The children will also learn to be responsible for bringing their folders each day and placing them in the designated area.
