Teachers all around the country know that by the end of the year, a class can feel like a family. This is especially true in an inner city school like mine, where students are sometimes more dependent on their friends and teachers than their parents. One way I foster this feeling in my classroom is by using board games and team building opportunities to build bonds between my students.
I would like to extend these bonds to the families of my students. Another teacher and I have been conducting regular "family nights" where we teach computer skills, help parents with their taxes, and give information on college scholarships. We would like to include board games as part of these family nights.
The board games you donate will help us build bonds in our community and our classrooms. One thing my school is missing is the support of the community - our family nights are an attempt to repair that connection.
