My Students
Our school serves students from Kindergarten to sixth grade. We are working hard as a school to bring more family engagement opportunities to our community.
Our students love learning and their families are overwhelmed with work responsibilities.
Families in our community struggle with finding ways to help their students learn at home. Our students come from hard working families in a lower socio-economic status. They strive to learn and help their students, but need more resources and ideas to keep their students learning at home.
My Project
Our school goal is to get families engaged in learning at home. Our school is continuing the Academic Parent Teacher Team model (APTT) that we started last school year. At APTT meetings parents come to the school and review classroom data. Parents review the data of the classroom based on assessments on standards that the teacher had given. Parents discuss the data with the teacher and each other. Parents are shown an activity that they can use at home to help their student improve on the reading or math standard that was reviewed. At the end of the 75 minute meeting, parents leave with a couple activities to take home to help their students.
The items that I am requesting will be used to help put the learning activity packets together for the parents and students so targeted learning can take place at home.
Parents love coming to the school to review the data and leave with learning activities that they can play as a family at home.
Some of the learning activities use dice (addition games reading retell games), some use playing cards, (multiplication war) some activities use craft sticks (sight words and letter sounds) and the Ziploc bags keep everything together so the items aren't lost in the home.
