Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A goal of our school district, as well as the state of Kansas, is to focus on chronic student absenteeism. A way to do this is to get families involved, and in the school building for fun events, so they are more likely to encourage their students to go to school regularly. In a large building like ours, with almost 400 students, these events can be difficult to coordinate and expensive to host. Our Title 1 Reading and Math teams have hosted a variety of evenings for our parents and students to encourage at home reading and math practice thanks to support with money from our district, and generous donors!

This November we will be hosting a BINGO night for our students and families and need your help providing raffle prizes for every student that attends, even if they don't win a BINGO prize.

The raffle prizes will consist of books at a variety of reading levels and interests, games that help reinforce math and basic reading skills, as well as sweet treat, or two. We have purchased several games with the funds provided by the district, and will be purchasing food for the event as well.

The students and families look forward to these events and they are generally well attended by the school community. One of our missions at each family engagement event is to provide students and families something that extends their learning outside of the school walls, such as games, books, and strategies. This project makes that mission possible.
