My students need family engagement packs to help get families involved in their learning.

My Students
Our school is in the heart of Brooklyn, NY.
It includes students from Pre-K to eighth grade, and it is a melting pot of descendants from the West Indies.
The school is in a high poverty area, and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are 18 energetic, three and four-year-old children in my class, but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts and although our families give us support they can't always help out financially.
My Project
The backpacks I am requesting have math and reading activities my pre-kindergarten students can do with their families at home. These backpacks include games and other hands on activities that will build my students literacy and math skills.
Learning through play instead of completing worksheets is the age appropriate way for 4 year olds to learn.
Many of the families don't know how to help their children learn through play. They rely on worksheets to teach their kids. Instead of sending home worksheets for homework the students will be able to bring home their backpacks. Families will learn how to teach through play by completing the fun activities in the bags.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
