Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 20 Third grade students in a school where 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch Title I school. Despite my students being below grade level in reading and math, they are always excited to come to school and love to take on the challenges that come with each new topic or subject that is brought to them.
I want to create a classroom environment that is nurturing, engaging, and a place students can thrive!
I would like the opportunity to provide this experience by making sure my students have all the materials and supplies that will help them grow as learners and help them continue to develop and grow their love of learning.
My Project
I have an amazing class that LOVES to read. I want to continue to help them grow through this very important year and help them have high interest books available to them throughout the year.
We are requesting series and graphic novels which are a great way to engage students who are reluctant readers or who believe they are bad at reading.
Because comics are visual, even if the text is difficult, the visuals give the reader support in comprehending the story. My goal is to have more graphic novels to excite my reluctant reader and those students struggling with reading. Having these books that belong in a series helps to keep readers engaged for a longer period of time and continue to be excited to read.
It is so important for children to continue to love reading and be excited about the books around them. My students come from home where there is often a lack of book. To be able to have a bigger selection of books in my classroom library, I am able to help them continue to love to read and have books readily available at all times. Please help me fill my library with strong series and graphic novels to engage my 3rd graders!
