Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Fourth-grader (Noun) \fȯrth grā-dər\ - Someone who is a mathematician, reader, writer, artist, scientist, dancer, leader, explorer, and friend. - Someone who needs access to technology, high-quality books and an inclusive place to learn.
My fourth graders are curious and they try hard--really hard.
They love to read, write, explore, and find answers to questions. Did you know that they are also bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate? They speak, read, and write in two languages, English and Spanish. That also means that during the school day, they learn in both languages.
My Project
In the Scholastic Principal and Administrator’s Report (2018), they found that the average United States classroom contains 254 books with 31% of classroom libraries containing fewer than 50 books.
These statistics are sad, and as a classroom teacher I know it is my responsibility to do whatever it takes to put high-interest books in the hands of my students.
With a classroom library full of engaging books like El coyote tonto, Los agujeros negros, El camino más corto and MORE, my students will be able to continue growing not only as readers but also as writers. My students will be able to take these books home - guaranteeing that access to books is not an issue.
Help me put great books in the hands of my students.
