Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in 5th grade and my goal is to make them life-long learners. I strive to help them develop a love of learning through engaging lessons using hands-on and online tools.
When students can make positive connections with education, they will develop a thirst for wanting to learn more.
If I can provide these types of positive opportunities for children, I will have felt accomplished as an educator. I am passionate about helping them exceed expectations, and I look forward to watching them grow and learn throughout this school year!
My Project
Every child should be given the opportunity to fall in love with reading. That is what I intend to do with these class sets of novels. Throughout the year, I plan to engage my students in book clubs in which we read and discuss novels that will capture their imaginations and enrich their minds.
A quote from Henry David Thoreau states "Read the best books first, or you may not have a chance to read them at all." Too often, I see children who don't like to read and therefore, they don't read often enough.
Children who do not read frequently are more likely to struggle with reading, which in turn causes them to dislike reading even more. Conversely, children who like to read tend to read more often and consequently become stronger readers. This is known as "The Matthew Effect." I hope to help my students foster a love of reading in order to help them strengthen their reading skills and become lifelong readers and learners.
I have carefully selected novels that cover a variety of topics that will help students explore and learn. These are award-winning titles that are intended for young children, and I believe my 5th graders will absolutely love them.
