This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The dancers at my school are a phenomenal group of 6th-8th graders who train daily to hone their skills. My dance team declare themselves as dance prospects seeking to enter performing arts high schools. These learners are physically expressive, socially conscious, and creative individuals. As a community, we view education and art-making as tools for empowerment, self-reflection, and social change. Our annual Winter Arts Festival and competition is a valued event in our school community.
Help students to prepare for the Fall competitiveness by enabling creativity in both choreography and costume design.
Every year our students choreograph and perform in the Fall Dance competition. They work tirelessly to prepare their bodies physically to endure and demonstrate not only dance ability but to also encourage fitness. This year, the students will design their costumes. This requires leotards, sequins, and costume fringes. It is a very exciting time of the year that the students look forward to kick off the various scheduled dance competition. Students will use the sequins and fringes to design a stunning leotard. All dance levels participate in the competitions which covers all ballet, jazz, liturgical, and hip hop. The students work incredibly hard prepare for the Fall competition. This year, we wanted to give the students the opportunity to let the costumes reflect their creativity on the stage and in costume design. The students will be so excited and proud to incorporate their personal designs in the competition.
