Fairy Tales Fluency Building Projects

Help me give my students Fairy Tales STEM kits that will enhance their English language growth through collaborating to build projects related to the story and to build excitement of reading using the story figures.

My Students

My second grade English Learner students are so eager to learn, work collaboratively to build and to read independently. They enjoy acting out their reading which is building meaning with language as well as becoming fluent in reading. The entire group enjoys constructing and they use so much English language to help direct one another to get a project completed together. I love the amount of care and kindness they show toward one another as they work to learn together.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in students' learning by interacting with characters in plastic figures (puppets) to act out the story in addition to gaining language fluency through collaborative work on building a project related to the story. Students will be introduced to the new fairy tale story using a book and a video to build background knowledge. Next, students will act out the story through the story character figures and storyboard. Then, students will work collaboratively to build the project related to the story. Last, students will read reader's theater and act out in addition to rewriting the story.
