My Students
I am a third-grade teacher in Pennsylvania. My classroom is made up of thirty, eager second graders. I also have a wide range of reading and math abilities in my classroom. I am the teacher with the ESL-friendly classroom. This is my second year having the ESL classroom, and I would like to accommodate more students who speak different languages.
My reading levels range from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade.
It's important that I read with these children everyday in order to get them on grade level by the end of the year. All my students get free or reduced-price lunch and all these children love coming to school.
My Project
My third grade class has inspired me to write this project! Every week when we go to the library, I have students ask for classic fairy tales. These books will allow my students to read and hear these stories as many times as they want to! After listening to a fairy tale, students will draw and write about it in small groups. These shared listening experiences will lead to wonderful student conversations about stories and characters. Fairy tales are an important part of our cultural literacy that every child should have access to, especially in an ELL classroom.
Imagine each student holding a book, looking at the pictures and following the words while listening to a fairy tale read aloud.
We are working on making our own fairy tales and we do need these examples! All this is happening while small groups are going on and children are learning even more. We can't wait to get a hold of these new materials and decorate our new libraries with decorations as well.
