I am the media specialist of a high school with approximately 60% free or reduced-price lunch and approximately 70% black or brown students. Our goal is to have fair and equitable rights for all students no matter the race or gender. Our students deserve the rights to a fair and equitable education and a safe environment to learn. Our students are very energetic and inquisitive about learning.
My Project
At our high school, we provide effective cultural leadership to maximize opportunities for the academic, social, and emotional success of all students.
We increase culturally relevant teaching practices in all classrooms.
We do this by offering professional developments to the staff that will assist teachers in their classrooms.
We work to provide research-based support for teachers and staff on our current changing school demographics that will effectively lead to better relationships with students, families, and the community; increased access to college and careers post-secondary; and increase student proficiency and growth.
Working with this professional development on our teachers will allow them to be more empathetic to students needs regardless of the race and gender. Students deserve the right to a fair and equitable learning environment. This professional development will be working with the teachers. Teachers will use the resources to expand their knowledge for the topics to create a learning environment that suits all students equally. Students will benefit from the resources by increasing their mastery from the positive change in climate.
