This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Shakuntala Devi said " Without mathematics, there's nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers." This quote has inspired me to provide my students with opportunities to be successful in math. I know that students who don’t have immediate recall of math facts spend much of their time on basic computations instead of learning higher order math skills. This is why I try to provide my students with the foundation they need to achieve their goals.
As an educator I seek to provide meaningful learning activities to challenge their understanding of the world.
My students come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and the majority of them qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
White boards make learning fun! Using dry erase boards allows me as a teacher to check my students understanding immediately by having them raise their boards up in the air. The students will feel empowered and motivated to show off their answer. The boards will allow my students to erase their answers and move on to the next problem. As a teacher, I will be able to determine whether my students have understood the topic presented or if I need to reteach or clarify misconceptions. Fluency in math facts will help children gain confidence in math and excel in other areas of math. I hope the white boards will allow me to make to check for understanding very quickly.
