Fact Finders

My students need challenging nonfiction books. They are a group of GIFTED learners, that enjoy facts and learning as much a possible about all their interests. We are also in need of new marker boards.

My Students

Our 2nd grade Class Mission is think independently , do make mistakes and be helpful! We love to move and explore the world hands on! I want them to learn through movement that energizes them. They are a group of uniquely energized gifted learners with the need to move and learn. They enjoy investigating multiple ways to solve both reading and mathematical problems. Due to the diversity of learning, a visit to my room might look a little like this...a visitor would see small groups of students who are defending their understanding of the content being presented, while at the same time, squatting, bouncing, standing, or laying on a desk. Students are using marker boards, body movements, and paper to represent with pictures, numbers and words their understanding of the content. Gifted learners are characteristically unique in their own style of presenting their understanding of learning, while also needing additional stimuli to keep their focus and attention.

My Project

My gifted learners thrive on facts. They enjoy reading and researching topics we are studying. They are often asking to visit the library to research new and old topics. Having the "Who is..." and "Fact Trackers" books will increase their researching skills. Reading nonfiction books also challenges and increase their decoding words and comprehension skills. Writing a research essay is a 2nd grade standard, so allowing them to get comfortable with reading this type of text will free them up to focus on the writing of nonfiction. The class is also in need of new marker boards. We use them daily cross curriculum subjects to increase student engagement during practice drills.
