My Project

We are a Title One, inner city school with a wildly diverse student population from many different cultures. We've made a breakthrough this year, getting funds to provide new classroom libraries. True, they are paperbacks and won't last long or look good for long, but it is still a far cry from the tattered, wretched library discards our teachers had before. So wretched and old were our library books, we were asked by other librarians in our school district to not share them if a title was requested. It was heartbreaking. We've had some good fortune here the last two years on Donor's Choose and the win of a few wonderful grants that has raised the quality of our books from dismal to an average age of twenty years old with a lovely infusion of new books. Naturally, our students are crazy about the new books and check them out nearly exclusively. Some, through this ardent use, have already aged out and need to be replaced. What a lovely problem to have!

Please help our students have sparkling, clean, new books that they can enjoy and cherish.

It is a precious thing to watch their enthusiasm as they pore over new titles and excitedly discuss books they have 'found' with their friends. Thank you for helping us provide excellent new reading materials to fire our student's imaginations and strengthen their minds.
