This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the pleasure of working in an elementary school in the Bronx with a large immigrant population. Many of my students just moved to America and have limited proficiency in English. My students come from all around the world and bring with them their rich cultural backgrounds.
This pandemic only highlights my students' outstanding tenacity!
They have faced the challenges of remote learning and have only grown more determined to succeed. What I love most about my students is their devotion to learning, exploration, and creativity. Please help my students receive the tools they need to be successful in our classroom and remotely.
My Project
The 2020-2021 school year will be unlike any before it. At this moment in time everything is unknown. Will we go back to school? Will there be a hybrid of remote and in person learning? What does that look like? Unfortunately, I don't know the answers to these questions. However, what I do know is that students (no matter where they learn) need the school supplies necessary to succeed.
As the New York City Department of Education suffers over $400 million in budget cuts due to the coronavirus pandemic, schools will be hard pressed to provide the learning materials they had in previous years.
Due to these circumstances, I would like to supply all the materials that my students will need for this upcoming school year. The entire city is suffering financially, including many of the parents in our school community due to the pandemic. If this project is funded it will provide the necessary school supplies for students, alleviating the financial burden to families during this difficult time.
