This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Teach the children well and let them lead the way," this line is from Greatest Love of All, by Michael Masser and Linda Creed. And I firmly believe what the song says. We must teach the children well as they are the future of this country and we will need to depend on them to lead the way into a bright future.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds.

They also have diverse ability levels. We are in a large school district that has been severely hit by budget cuts. We have very few supplies and there is definitely no money to be spent on "extras." My class is full of curious students who love to learn through hands-on lessons. They are bright and enjoy learning. They need exposure to lessons that cannot be taught using just the materials supplied by our district.

My Project

We have no choice about distance learning right now but I want to get my students' eyes off the screen and into an intriguing book. They stare at the computer all day long. I want to give them a break from that.

I want all my students to hold a book in their hands and engage in the experience of reading an entire chapter book while learning many language arts skills.

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler is a fun book that I know they will enjoy. They won't even realize how much they are learning while they enjoy the book. In the end they will feel accomplished knowing that they have read an entire chapter book which is something many students at this age won't do on their own.

I need this class set of “From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler” so that I can teach my students core lit during distance learning. I want then to have an actual book to hold during this time where they spend their days looking at a device for their education.
