This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are highly creative and passionate about their art. Because of our school's focus on contemporary art, they are committed to exploring art of all types. My high school students are in grades 9-12, and many see me for four years.
My students are eager to develop their art to become college and career ready.
To that end, we partner with arts organizations such as the Morgan Library Museum and the New York Art Deco Society and others to obtain real-world feedback and experiences.
My students are eager to develop as artists and students and participate fully in opportunities to do so.
My Project
Keeping a strong sketchbook practice is vital for encouraging a creative mindset. The sketchbook isn't just a collection of paper, it is actually a Research and Development center for creative thinking.
In our art program at HS for Contemporary Arts, EYElab, we are artists who are continually developing our craft.
Due to Covid-19, our artist-scholars will be remote learning either full time or half time during the Fall 2020 semester. It's important for our artists to have their own individual sketchbook supplies to use at home or bring between home and school.
Our sketchbook kits will accompany our artists throughout the semester. They will create their own covers, visualize their projects, develop thumbnail sketches, collect ideas and inspirations in their personalized portable R&D labs, aka their cherished sketchbooks.
