This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every morning, our students walk into school buzzing and energetic, ready to learn. They step into our classrooms with questions about the world, are ready to challenge us, and push each other's thinking. To sum it up, they're some of the best students we have taught in our teaching careers.

Living in what was once considered "the poorest congressional district in the country", otherwise known as the South Bronx, our students face more challenges than some people we may know and still, they come to school day in and day out, giving it their all.

Our school serves a population where at least 90% of the students receive free lunch and come from low-income neighborhoods. Despite the challenges they may face outside of our walls, they give school their all and try their hardest every day.

My Project

This project will cover the cost of 30 eye exams and eyeglasses for students at our school. Having eyeglasses for our 6th-8th grade students would help them so much! Being that many come from lower income households, many students are unable to receive the services they need. This project would lift a weight off their parents' shoulders and allow our students to thrive even more in school.

Imagine seeing everything blurry and having to squint every minute of the day to try to decipher the words and faces you see every day of your life.

For many of our students, even sitting in the front of the classroom doesn't help. Receiving an eye exam and eyeglasses would change their lives in more ways than one! They'll be able to wear their free and stylish eyeglasses every day, which will build their confidence both in and out of school. Being able to see clearly will help them focus better in class and it'll be one less thing for them to worry about.
