Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a media specialist in a K-8 inner city elementary school building. I teach low income students that are Latino and Asian and come from hard working families. Our media center is a small space with limited materials. I have recently been hired as the media specialist and I am trying to revamp the whole program. We are in need of so much to improve our library.

Our building is 100 years old and in major disrepair. We aren't scheduled to have a new building built for our students for another 10 years. The library is an area that has been neglected for too long. My students love to read and are so excited to come to the library and I am trying to provide quality materials and an inviting setting for them.

I need bean bag chairs and big books. I am in the process of applying for grants to get more books. I now just want the room to be inviting and have the basic library equipment that they deserve so it LOOKS like a library.

Your help will ensure that my underprivileged, inner city students with little else in their lives will have a warm and inviting library to come to and escape their troubles.
