Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade in an inner city school in San Francisco, CA which serves an extremely diverse and largely immigrant population. I have been at the same school for the past 10 years and need to update my library. My classics, fairy tales and most popular books are well-worn and need to be replaced. Although I borrow books from the public library and school library on a monthly basis, it is important for the children to have an updated library of their own. We have a daily self-selected reading time and children always gravitate towards certain titles. This grant would ensure that those titles are always available for the children. I need to replace many of my Dr. Seuss books, fairy and folk tales, and basic concept books to create a high-interest library. Your funding of this grant proposal will boost enthusiasm in classroom library time and help my early readers to develop good reading habits.
