Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Extra-curricular activities build skills that cannot be learned in an academic environment. I teach at a low-income urban school in South Philadelphia. The students that attend my school deserve so much more. In addition to academics, I would love to provide them with opportunities to discover joy through an arts and crafts club. With more exposure and opportunities, students can learn to have fun, discover ways to work with their hands and find out what they are good at.
Participating in extra-curricular activities provides students to discover new skills, and build teamwork, communication, relationships, and a sense of belonging.
All of these skills help students to develop socially and become successful in school.
Materials such as River Rocks, Terracotta Pots, Acrylic Paint, Painting Palette & Brushes will be used to make pet cactus rocks! The painting will enhance students’ hand-eye coordination and dexterity. Students will have the chance to be creative and decorate their cactus uniquely as their own. In addition, beads, string, and lobster claws will help students create friendship bracelets, charms, key chains, and mask chains. Making bracelets and charms will turn the students’ endless imagination into something meaningful.
Arts and crafts club will provide a safe environment where students can express their emotions and thoughts through creativity. Please help my students discover skills that can only benefit them now and in the future.
