My students need lab supply for extracting DNA from fruits and vegetables
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $593
This project is fully funded
I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade science. One big theme in biology is how the genetic information is passed on from one generation to the next.
All the genetic information for a living organism is contained in its DNA. It will be fascinating to show students that we can extract DNA from ordinary fruits, such as bananas, and vegetables, such as peas.
I will show students how to use kitchen blenders, detergent (to break the cell membrane), meat tenderizer (to digest protein), and salt and alcohol (to precipitate DNA) to make DNA visible with naked eyes.
Your generous help will make this project possible. My students may be able to go back home to show their parents and siblings this experiment. The idea is that all the living thing contains DNA.
