This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This coming school year, I will be moving on to first grade with my kindergartners! We have worked hard together to graduate kindergarten and I am very excited to see how much more we can grow another year together! My students are all English language learners so this gives them one more obstacle to jump over than their peers in the other rooms. A few were not even comfortable speaking English all the time at the beginning of the year. We are also a title 1 school where over 80% of the students receive free and reduced lunch. Many of them get their breakfast here and some even have supper in the cafeteria after school as well. Through all of this, I strive to get them to where they need to be, both academically and emotionally, and get them to love learning just like I do!
My Project
As my students move to first grade, they will be more independent learners. We will utilize center learning more this year, and as such, we are looking for more comfortable spaces to work in the room. They will be so excited to be able to learn in small groups around the room this year with these seats. Last year when we spread out our learning, students’ choices were to go back to their tables or simply work on the floor. We will be able to have our work spaces in more places around the room since we are in the same one this year; making the learning inherently more interesting to them!
