The students are STARS who come from diverse backgrounds. Our district is low income, high poverty, and the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Despite all their challenges, they come to school ready and eager to learn.
In our classroom, we are vivid readers and writers!
Our units of study are centered around themes and we read many forms of literature centered around them. My students enjoy our novel based studies and nonfiction that build important knowledge centered around the world and our science and social studies curriculum. My students are passionate about the readings we do and often times are disappointed when our time is over! This is my ultimate goal as a reading and writing teacher, to build lifelong learners who are eager to read, think deeply, and learn!
My Project
Students, at a young age, must be exposed to current news in their lives. By using Scholastic News Magazines, not only will my students be able to do this, but it will also allow us access to thousands of other articles on their online database. This will allow me to find current magazine articles that can support our current units of study.
Scholastic News articles have current event titles and bring important news articles into classrooms.
My past experience with them has proven that students enjoy reading the articles and love being able to take them home to share with their families.
