This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is comprised of eager and curious diverse learners.

I currently teach a unique group of diverse learners ranging in grade levels from Kindergarten through Third Grade.

All of my students come into our classroom with diverse needs i.e. academic, social-emotional, behavioral, etc. My students live within a poverty stricken area and don't always have the most up-to date materials or access different educational opportunities as the students in our surrounding communities may have. Their struggles to learn are great, but their spirits are high. They are challenged most with learning appropriate behaviors, reading and math. They always put forth their best efforts, even when working with the most outdated, hand-me-down, incomplete materials.

My Project

If my classroom is granted the educational magazines we are aspiring to have; we would be able to not only apply and enhance our reading skills but also gain knowledge and make connections to the world around us. The ability to aide in exposing my students to the world around them would not only fill their curious little minds but would also help them as expand their thinking as great learners. These subscriptions would be use in a variety of ways i.e.; independent/partner/whole group readings, close readings, used as a source to promote "solid" conversations and comparing/contrasting information, etc. My students would also be given these materials to take home. This will be done with hopes that after completing various activities pertaining to them in school, they will be able to educate and share their ideas with family members. The possibilities are truly endless...

The impact that this project will have on my students would be much greater than any of us could imagine.

These subscriptions to them are the equivalent to learning from a computer, cell-phone or iPad to us. They are happy and eager to learn as it is. Imagine how much more they could prosper with the right tools in their reach. After all, my kiddos are already up against great odds.. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
