My Students
I teach 22 four-year-olds in a public school. My kids are super fun, exciting, and they are very inquisitive. My kids and I are always on the floor with games, puzzles, blocks, manipulatives, and reading. At this moment we are eating our snack in the classroom too. We used to have a place to go that had carpet but that was removed and now it is tile. I don't like the kids sitting on the cold tile and not to mention without the carpet their little voices carry and echo. We don't want to disturb the nearby classes when we eat our snack in the room.
Our classroom is where all the fun happens.
It is also where a lot of messes happen. We are talking about 22 four-year-olds and a teacher who likes to make a mess. There is so much going on in the room sometimes an outside person may say it seems like chaos. Trust me there is a whole lot of learning going on. From science projects of melting wax, painting, cutting and gluing, drawing, counting, making music, to playing dress up. Our days are busy.
My Project
The new classroom rug will be great for the students to sit on during storytime, and it will give them some extra space to spread out without feeling like they are not part of the "learning rug." With the alphabet on the rug, I can think of a few learning games using the letters and pictures on the rug.
My students love to learn and love standing on "their" spot on the rug.
Having their own spot on the rug gives them a sense of ownership. They take pride in taking care of their spot. I hope if we get this rug our current rug can be moved to the area where we use to eat the snack and we can go back to eating the snack out of the classroom.
