This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are second graders from a high poverty school. Our students are very inquisitive and love science, math, reading and hands-on and fast-paced projects; however, funds are limited, and we are in need of funds to purchase student subscriptions for Scholastic News magazine. We were fortunate enough to receive funding from a local car dealership for half of our students' subscriptions, but really need to be able to provide this opportunity to all of our second grade students this year.

My Project

My students need subscriptions to Scholastic News Magazine and Science Spin Magazine. These materials are invaluable to our classroom.

Scholastic News and Science Spin put full color print materials into the hands of students with engaging articles and pictures that the students love to read.

Having these magazines not only lets the students practice reading and comprehension, but also engages them in the topics that they are reading about. They are informative, but are on level with what the students can understand. They use text features and high quality color pictures to help engage and enhance the learning of the student while they read these articles.
