My Project

First graders LOVE developing their reading skills and they are especially eager to soak up as many interesting, meaningful, and relevant texts as they can get their hands on. It is challenging and expensive to find grade-level fiction and non-fiction texts that both challenge and engage my students. It is even more difficult to equip students with such reading material that can be taken home to be read, shared, and cherished again and again.

Subscriptions to the Grade 1 Scholastic News magazine and the Grade 1 Storyworks magazine will provide my little learners with 38 high-quality take-home texts that are engaging, colorful, meaningful, relevant, and FUN!

I have used Scholastic News for years in my first grade classroom and my students love immersing themselves in the variety of interesting seasonal themes (ice castles in December, oviparous animals in the spring, etc.) and age-appropriate current events (children serving in communities, Olympians sharing their journeys, etc.). Storyworks provides engaging fictional material that my students will absolutely eat up. Each subscription also includes access to engaging video material, printables, and games! By the end of the year each students will have 38 magazines to keep forever! I would be THRILLED to teach with and give my students these effective and FUN scholastic magazines!
