Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group that come from a diverse background. Our low income, intercity school is a Title I school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. And 65% of our students are ELL (English Language Learners) yet they are eager to learn.
Many of them have limited resources at home and so when they come to school I want to provide them with an enriched classroom.
They are so excited to learn, and I want to make sure that I help them as much as possible.
My Project
Sometimes 5th grade textbooks can be sooooo boring! Let's bring current news into my classroom and give an extra boost of reading excitement through Scholastic News. With this amazing resource, my 5th graders will be able to identify reliable news sources, circle and highlight text evidence and context clues, as well as learning about other amazing kids that are doing great things in our world.
In addition to using this in the classroom, they will also have access to the articles online to support home reading and learning when needed.
