My Students
Can you imagine trying to read an article that is in a field that you are not familiar with? Think about the frustration it may cause or how quickly you lose interest. That's what it's like for children to read books independently at a level that is not their own.
My students live in extreme need.
They attend a brand new school that just opened its doors this fall but due to the districts budget it lacks some basic necessities such as books. Despite all their misfortune, my students are eager to learn and have the biggest hearts and desires to succeed in school.
My Project
The leveled readers I am asking for will serve as tools during guided reading to teach students at their instructional level. Students will learn skills such as reading comprehension, word analysis, and character and plot development. The leveled readers will also be used to practice reading at each student's individual level. This will allow them to practice skills that have been previously taught by the teacher.
These books will make an extreme difference in each child's reading experience.
Lessons will tailored to the individual academic needs of the students. They will be able to practice skills on their own eliminating a frustration that many times is placed upon students when using materials not appropriate for their reading levels. They will also help to set goals and expectations for each individual.
