This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the most amazing diverse group of second graders! We are a neighborhood school in a Title 1 district with a high percentage of children from low-income families. However, this does not stop them from always trying their best, or going above and beyond in the classroom community.
"I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand."
Second graders are curious about their surroundings, and soak up information like a sponge. I want to give them everything I can to help them experience what they need to understand their world.
My Project
Learning how to read news articles is a fun way to help students understand how informational text is used on a daily basis. Scholastic News takes it to another level by providing age appropriate articles that are linked to our second grade curriculum.
First, students learn to read, then they read to learn.
My second graders are ready to begin reading to learn. This is why the Scholastic News will be so beneficial to them. It's a great way for them to experience reading informational text that is created just for them. These will easily be integrated into my social studies, and reading lessons.
