My students need subscriptions to Scholastic News. A subscription for each child will provide weekly age appropriate articles on current world events. My students will be engaged, build nonfiction-reading skills, and increase content area knowledge.
My elementary school serves 1st-3rd graders. A huge passion of mine has always been around classroom climate.
I train and expect my students to be independent, hard-working, and cooperative learners focused on setting and reaching their own individual goals.
I offer a variety of seating options including: ergonomic stools, exercise balls, traditional chairs and cushioned benches to sit on every day.
In my classroom I opt to not use overhead fluorescent lighting. Instead I have provided over 30 lamps throughout the classroom to foster a more relaxing environment for learning.
We listen to classical music during our independent work times in the background. Consistency is key. My students know they are safe, loved, and valued. We are family.
My Project
Scholastic News is a weekly subscription based publication. Students receive their own individual copy of Scholatic News which allows them to be fully engaged with the articles and focus on their own learning. Materials are connected to the Common Core through the lessons and supplemental skill sheets. Students will also be exposed to maps, graphs and charts.
My students will be able to learn about current events at their reading level through Scholastic News.
These events are age appropriate and high interest. Reading Scholastic News creates lively discussions and interactions. Students can also bring their copy of Scholastic News home to read and discuss with their family.
I believe it is critical to build my students' content area knowledge in order to broaden their awareness of the world around them. Topics that aren't in my students' text books will now be available to them. Scholastic News provides flexibility as students can read the articles individually, with a partner, in small groups or even whole class groups.
