Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located near one of the largest and busiest shipping ports in the world. The students in my class are very proud of our school and town. Nearly all of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I teach reading and writing to 90 4th graders in three instructional blocks.

My students have a love of reading and writing.

They love reading all types of texts, whether they are novels, short stories, poems, or nonfiction. My students are able to take any story and delve into the theme and characters. They are able to take nonfiction texts and find the main idea or problems and solutions. In writing, they write essays and creative stories. My students love language arts!

My Project

The subscription for Time For Kids magazine will be used in our reading and writing instructional block. Time For Kids magazine is a valuable learning tool for the students. It contains news stories from all over the world that are current and of high interest to the students. Time For Kids also has a technology component that will allow students to read online articles and watch news videos. They will be used throughout the entire school year to teach students about nonfiction text structures, which is a key standard in our grade level.

This donation of Time For Kids magazine will support the reading and writing instruction of the all 4th graders at our school.

The magazine will increase students' reading fluency and comprehension strategies and skills. Students will be able to respond in writing to debate articles that are included in every issue. The online component will increase students' technology skills. In addition, students will be able to learn what is going on globally. The subscription to Time For Kids magazine will be a valuable addition to students' learning!
