it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten students literacy, math and social science in Baltimore city in a title I school. This is a school in a high-need community with a 50% non-English speaking population. Ninety-nine percent of our students receive free lunch.
Kindergarteners in Baltimore city, need your help with additional educational resources.
This is a title I school in the heart of Baltimore city that is directly affected by budget cuts. Ninety-nine percent of the students at our Pre-k to 8 school receive free lunch, and the parents struggle to support the classrooms financially when they are already struggling at home. Although our administration is supportive with helping the classroom with some school supplies, the main focus is on retaining school staff (which has been cut back by 40%). After the curriculum's required resources are obtained there is little left in the budget for teacher requested resources such as the Weekly Reader. Our school purchased the publication for all grades last year, but because of budget restraints will not purchase the publication for the upcoming school year.
The Weekly reader is a resource that benefits the students development in all areas of academia, literacy, math and social sciences. Because of the budget restraints, the students do not have literature resources they can use at school and take home to read. The magazine also includes educational activities that are engaging.
With your donation, you will make it possible for my students to have access to current news, science and cultural information that is presented on their grade level. This magazine is considered a non-reusable resource that is very difficult for students in high-need schools to obtain. Your donation will allow students in these areas to have a resource that students in other schools may take for granted. Thank you so much for your support! I appreciate your concern for our youth and ultimately our future.
