This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Variety is the spice of life, and that is our awesomely diverse school this year. The wide range of learners from varying backgrounds makes every day interesting. My school, as a whole, has about 89% of students who receive free and reduced-price lunch. Additionally, about 75% of our students are Hispanic, about 5% are African American, about 3% Asian, about 3% Caucasian, and the rest are of different combinations of the above.
Although our students face many hardships including language barriers and economic hardships, they are eager to learn.
Therefore, we want them to know that we see their effort, their perseverance, their tenacity. We want them to be confident and strong in their academic skills. This is why we want to display their hard work and brighten their hallways. Lifted spirits lead to more confidence, better work ethic, and great days!
My Project
Elementary Students are developing their love for learning and reading every day! As teachers, we always want students to read. These Scholastic Magazines are a perfect addition to our classrooms because their appearance alone encourages students to pick them up.
These Scholastic Magazines feature interesting, informative articles about current events combined with color photographs and artwork, and inviting layouts and text features that encourage our curious elementary students to turn the pages to read about the world around them.
Students slow check out the text features and have great collaborative discussions with their classmates, prior to the teacher even using the text to teach. When the unit of study is complete, a bonus is the opportunity for students to take the magazines home to share with their parents and friends.
For our more electronically sound teachers and teachers, the digital version is also an option. It allows for students to stay on track in the comfort of their own homes. Scholastic News Magazines definitely cater to all types of learners.
