My students need a class subscription of the amazing Science World Magazine to help jump start their growth as both scientists and skilled readers.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Young's classroom raised $400
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"What we learn with pleasure, we never forget." - Alfred Mercier
Remember that book or subject that hooked you in school and you can still recall facts and information about? Reading can be a beautiful way to help young adults explore the world around them and gain knowledge about endless topics.
My NYC middle school students come from low-income households and attend a public school in the Bronx.
They are diverse and unique, and lack exposure and opportunities to get their hands on amazing and interesting educational reading materials. Additionally, many of our students are in the lowest one-third in both NYC and NYS for literacy, which creates many obstacles in their quest for high achievement on school and state assessments. As a school community, all of the teachers work together to help our students grow and develop into young adults that can have successful futures and careers.
My Project
A classroom subscription to Scholastic's Science World magazine will give all of our middle school students access to engaging and educational reading materials. The magazine subscriptions would be used and shared with all of our 6-8 super scientists and allow the incorporation of varied level current event articles into weekly instruction. Each Science World issue has a spectrum of science articles that connect and relate the middle school content to real world events and phenomena. The magazines provide exciting and unique articles, pictures and tasks that target a diverse body of learners. There are teacher tools that allow for differentiation to help promote an increase in literacy for all of our students. The pictures and interactive links provided also help our English Language Learners to grow and develop their literacy skills. There is no limit to the learning that this subscription will provide for my students. This is an amazing way to create lifelong readers and learners.
Donations to this project can truly make a world of a difference.
We need to prepare our future leaders of this young generation for success in the real world. This is an incredible and motivating way to show our students what is going on in the world around them through the eyes of the science content. It can help them make connections between the classroom and their own cultures and lives, which is a pivotal step to create passionate lifelong learners.
