Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is composed of mainly ESl students that are eager to pick up new words and new learning experiences. Our school is majority English language learners that lack basic phonetic and language skills. Our school serves low income families with diverse backgrounds and cultures. I love having the opportunity to expose students to different subjects, topics, and technology. This allows them to fail in love with learning. My students come in each morning eager to learn and excited to see what else they can do in our classroom!
My Project
This project will help expose my students to non-fiction and informational text. As ELL learners, the more exposure they have to pictures and text the better it will prepare them for the real world. I'm hopeful that my students will love seeing and reading text about current issues and topics going on in the world. I plan to use these Time Magazines to introduce current events into our conversations. We will use this as informational reading, close reading and project based learning. These magazines have interesting current news articles, vibrant pictures, and new vocabulary. All the exposure to various topics will help my students start thinking and asking questions. I want to expose them to different jobs, news, and ideas in hopes it stirs their minds and hearts for their future. The magazines will be used as our social studies and science topics.
