Extra Boost Interventions+Help Kids with Dyslexia! (Part 2)
My students need an iPad mini so that each student in my groups of 3 may have their own learning tool! We already have two, we are needing only one more!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever seen the frustration in a child's eye when they can't read like their classmates? My job is to provide daily interventions so that children may achieve at the same rate as their peers. Help me get them there in a fun way! Help me reinforce that learning is fun!
My students are mostly readers who struggle with phonetic sounds, spelling, high frequency words, and writing.
I pull individual or small groups of students out of classrooms to provide multiple levels of support. Each child receives interventions that are tailored specifically to meet his or her needs. Reading intervention can be in the areas of fluency, phonemic awareness, comprehension, vocabulary, or alphabetic knowledge. Each child has their own unique needs in one or more of these things that are addressed every day.
Sometimes, these concepts are not reinforced at home because many of our parents are working multiple jobs to support their family. Our students are from families that cannot always spend the money on academic games or tools to help their kids. These children deserve engaging activities in their classroom!
My Project
I teach children of all grades who struggle with reading in some way. This mini iPad will serve many purposes! Think of everything you know that is already possible with an iPad, then multiply that!
This iPad will be used to buy books for independent and guided reading, manipulate letters into words, blend words, manipulate spelling patterns, create comic strips to demonstrate understanding, build vocabulary with word webs, draw pictures of new learning, reinforce phonemic awareness, and let children love reading again! This list could go on forever! New apps are coming out every day that help children learn! Although my primary focus is reading, I can also use a mini iPad for the many math games that are also available!
My goal is to use technology to really capture interest and inspire a new love for reading and learning.
These children need my help every day to be successful! Many of them have already decided that reading is too hard and they don't like it. I would love to "undo" this by presenting them with new materials in the classroom! Reading is essential to a child's success! We need to reach them at a young age with interventions that specifically meet the needs of each individual child!
