This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have a bunch of budding Michelangelo's ready to carve out their next masterpiece, however they have no marble, or in this case foam.
We have a growing art department and are adding a second advanced art class to our curriculum.
We are in need of more materials to help push our students' abilities and give them the proper art education they need. Many of our students prior to enrolling in our class have had little if no exposure to the arts, so we wish to provide them with a rich variety of mediums while they are with us.
My Project
We will use these carving blocks to create expressive sculptures in the style of Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguch. Students will not only be exposed to the medium of subtractive sculpture but they will learn art history, appreciation, and aesthetics and criticism.
Not all artists are drawers and painters, some are sculptures.
I wish to provide my students with a variety of art mediums so that they can explore and find which art medium suits them best.
