"Do we get to do that?!" is often a phrase heard in 1B. The students in my classroom, everyday, are eager to learn and try new things. Outside of school they do not typically have many opportunities, as I work at a Title I school in which many students are a part of the free and reduced lunch program. My school district is in a small community, in east Texas, and our students do not always have easy access to experiences and opportunities like schools in a bigger city would.
My Project
Often times in school, students are asked to complete tasks and are told they will receive extra points on their score for creativity, but are not given the materials to be creative. They are handed paper and pencil and expected to produce something great! In my classroom, I try to provide students with the opportunity to say or show what they have learned in a creative way. Each week there is an art project tied to what we are learning, and the students have began to really express their learning in new and exciting ways with their artwork. However, on a limited salary the art supplies are not always available, leaving our projects limited. If my project gets funded, my students will be able to widen their learning expression by using the paint and paintbrushes to complete new artwork. They will also be able to use the expo markers to share what they are thinking on their personal whiteboards!
