Express Your Emotions Through Colorfully Through Art!
Help me give my students snacks, pens and stickers to help support my students in encouraging positive choices in and out of the classroom while at school.
As a 9-12 Behavior Support Teacher, I teach students with disabilities in Social/Emotional development and regulation, behavior development, and life skill reasoning. Every student loves to work for something, even teenagers! A huge motivator is food! Healthy choices are always recommended, but sometimes we need to treat our hardest workers to a special treat they can earn themselves. I will use this grant to buy those items to encourage my students in their positive choices.
Many of these items (gel pens, multicolor pens, and stickers) will be used in SEL learning for students to use to express their individual style of art while completing their Growth Mindset Binder.
Additionally, students can use the mindfulness coloring book during free time when they need some time to unwind.
The Bubble Gum and Jolly Rancher candy will support students with ADHD, OCD, and other disorders that affect attention. It has been proven through research that students will be more successful in maintaining attention when they have an external mode of getting out energy. Thus, gum and hard candy helps my students focus by releasing their nervous energy while rewarding them for good choices.
When offering a healthy snack to students that are hungry, the nuts with fruit are a great source of good nutrition that lasts.
Statistically, 80% of my students are in foster care, 50-60% have been in residential treatment, and 25% have been incarcerated in the juvenile justice system. Any positive reinforcement is a win-win!
