Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us to read the kind of text we need to be able to read to be proficient in the 21st century! Not only do our students have to be able to read and interpret a novel, they also need to be able to read and interpret expository text. I need these resources to help them master this difficult skill!

My students are amazing 4th graders, also known as the Superheroes.

These students have a world of heart. I have 28 students, all of whom are Latino. Each day, they work towards our class and individual goals at our public, low-income K-8 school, and each day they inspire me and those around them!

My Project

With a subscription to Time For Kids, my students will be able to have frequent contact with wonderful expository text. These magazines will be incorporated into our reading, writing, and social studies blocks. 4th grade is a critical year for students to start realizing the value of reading, the fun of reading, and the power of reading. Not only will this subscription help my students come to these realizations, it will also aid them in learning how information is presented and inform them about current events. We will use these current events for social studies projects and expository writing pieces as well!

The funding of this project will give my 4th graders, most of whom have never been outside their city, exposure to much needed information and real life text.

I believe this routine in their 4th grade year will inspire them to read more and prepare them to be successful readers throughout their lives.
